Usborne Books are published in the U.S. by Educational Development Corporation in Tulsa, OK. EDC was incorporated in 1965 and presently has two divisions. EDC began distributing Usborne Books through the Publishing Division in 1978. The Home Business Division (Usborne Books at Home) began its operation on March 1, 1989 and has experienced steady growth since. Usborne Books at Home markets the entire Usborne line of over 1,300 titles through a combination of direct sales, home shows, book fairs, and school and library sales sold through a network system of independent sales consultants.
We have spent considerable time recently analyzing the vision for this company and what its purpose is. Yes, we sell the very best children's books in the world, but we feel we have a higher purpose. We feel we are part of the overall education and literacy movement in the nation, and we feel our products can make a difference in the lives of children. We have adopted a new Mission Statement that clearly defines the vision of our company.
Mission Statement
"The future of our world depends on the education of our
children. UBAH delivers educational excellence one book
at a time. We provide economic opportunity while fostering
strong family values. We touch the lives of children for a lifetime."
Usborne Books at Home was the first multilevel direct selling company in the United States to offer primarily nonfiction educational books for children. We have approximately 8,000 active consultants who are selling our books in all fifty states. The consultants can offer all of the 1,300 titles plus they have exclusive rights to offer another 80 titles which can only be purchased through these consultants.
President's Message
Usborne books are designed graphically to draw children in, to make them want to learn the material and to help them retain that knowledge. The magic of Usborne books is that they make both reading and learning fun. The books are so well organized that children absorb and recall much of the vast amount of information presented.
Usborne books At Home offers a wide range of subjects covering hobbies, history, science, nature, foreign languages, as well as guides for parents. Usborne books truly appeal to all ages, infants to adults, with prices to suit everyone
